Kitap Hakkında

The book, An Introduction to Electoral Law, examines elections as legal institutions through which political authority is formed, transferred, limited, and made accountable. Written for undergraduate and graduate students in law, political science, public administration, and international relations, the book provides a comparative account of the basic concepts, principles, and institutional questions that shape modern electoral law. The book begins with the conceptual foundations of elections, representation, democracy, and political legitimacy. It then considers political parties and party systems, the relationship between electoral law and government systems, international standards of democratic elections, electoral management bodies, electoral justice, and the main families of electoral systems. Technical matters such as district magnitude, thresholds, vote-seat conversion, ballot structure, proportionality, and majority formation are explained through examples so that institutional design can be understood in practical as well as theoretical terms. The main aim of the book is to help students read electoral law within its wider constitutional and democratic context. For that reason, the text gives limited space to any single national system and instead focuses on general principles, comparative patterns, and recurring institutional choices. Tables, concept lists, discussion questions, flowcharts, and suggested readings are used throughout the book to support classroom teaching and independent study.
