Secret - Vienna

An awe-inspiring private palace that can be visited by the public, a mummified crocodile in a private library, a "chocolate" house, an alchemical ceiling at Schonbrunn, one of the world's most beautiful pharmacies that occasionally allows visits, a superb forgotten Art Nouveau church, the tomb of a fish said to have converted to Judaism, a jazz museum housed in a public toilet, a waste treatment plant with its own museum, Vienna's oldest organ hidden behind a painting, an empress dressed as a nun, the mysterious 05 symbol, a phallus discreetly carved on one of the columns outside Vienna Cathedral, an unusual private billiards museum, a spring where the lucky lottery numbers can momentarily be seen, an extraordinary underground annex to Mauthausen concentration camp -where the world's first jet plane was built, a historic "love hotel" of great charm...Away from the usual crowds and clichés, Vienna still conceals treasures that are only revealed to locals and visitors who know how to step off the beaten track. An indispensable guide for those who thought they already knew the city or would like to discover its other facets.
