The Turkish War of National Liberation was the first of the many such conflicts which oppressed peoples have fought during the twentieth century to free themselves from colonial or imperial domination. But in the case of the Turks liberation from whom and from what? It was most certainly a war to libarate the Turkish people from the vengeful and hate-filled peace settlement which the victorious Entente Powers of Christian Europe were attempting to impose following their victory in World War I. It was also a war to liberate the Turks from the Ottoman dynasty which in order to save itself was cooperating with these attempts.
